Tell the General Assembly to expand Medicaid:

As a North Carolina taxpayer, I urge the General Assembly to expand Medicaid and stop sending our federal tax dollars to pay for Medicaid expansion in other states. According to the most recent study, by 2020 Medicaid expansion would create 43,000 jobs, nearly $1 billion in new tax revenue and would allow 500,000 people access to affordable healthcare. In addition to the economic benefits, expanding Medicaid would save over 1,000 lives in our state every single year.

We need to help those in the coverage gap, who are ineligible for federal subsidies, have the financial security that healthcare insurance provides. It makes sense economically and morally. It's just the right thing to do.

    Background

In the last few weeks, we have helped launch ncleftmeout.org, a website dedicated to telling the stories of those in the NC coverage gap. After holding events in Raleigh, Charlotte and Greensboro, we were disappointed to learn that leaders in the General Assembly still do not understand basic facts about the coverage gap.

In a TV interview, the second most powerful person in the NC House, Rep. Stam, falsely claimed that most who would benefit from Medicaid expansion already receive subsidies. He then admitted he did not understand how the coverage gap worked. We need to make sure no politician can claim they do not understand the basic issues around Medicaid expansion.

Sign our petition urging the General Assembly to expand Medicaid and give a big boost to our state's economy and people.
