Governor McCrory: It's time to come clean with the public

The recent News and Observer story raises disturbing questions about your relationship with a major campaign donor and private prison contractor. The public has a right to know how our tax dollars are being spent.

I urge you to stop blaming the media for your problems and come clean about the purpose of the private prison meeting and why you renewed the contract, despite safety objections from prison officials.

    Background

The front page story in the News and Observer on Saturday had it all: private prison contracts, a major McCrory campaign donor, and FBI inquiries into a possible pay-to-play relationship.

We’ve been sounding the alarm all year about McCrory’s pattern of ethical blunders, but the most recent story takes things to a whole new level. McCrory brokered a meeting for a major donor and pushed through a private prison contract over the objections of top prison officials.

On the heels of multiple FBI inquiries into possible pay-to-play relationships, it's time for Governor McCrory to stop blaming the media and come clean.
