Take Action

Tell NC politicians to pass a budget before it's too late:

It has now been over a month since the fiscal year ended and still there is no budget. This has created chaos for our schools. They don't know whether they'll need to fire hundreds of TAs, or hire dozens of teachers. They don't even know how much money they'll have for textbooks and classroom supplies.

With students back in school, it's time for you to show some leadership and pass a budget that supports our schools.

    Background

The ongoing budget stalemate is creating chaos for local school districts and local officials are sounding off:

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools Superintendent Ann Clark: If schools open without a state budget, “we reach a crisis point very quickly.”

School Board member Tim Morgan: “We’re getting ready to open our doors ... and we don’t have a clue yet if we’re going to have to (lay off) 500 teacher assistants or hire more than 100 teachers.”

School Board member Ericka Ellis-Stewart: “Let your elected officials know that we should not stand for this and it’s affecting our ability to educate children.”

Help us send a message to the politicians in Raleigh that it's time to give our schools a budget that supports our students and educators.
